Lock Door System | Lockable rooms with a doorbell for your VRChat world
Give a room a door your players lock behind them. A private booth, a bedroom, a meeting room, a VIP lounge — someone walks in, clicks the padlock, and the room is theirs until they leave. No moderator to call, no list to maintain.
It works on its own. The door unlocks itself once the last occupant is gone, so a room never stays shut because somebody disconnected without opening it.
What the room does
- A live list of who is inside, built from the detection zone and kept in step for everyone, including players who join later
- A doorbell with a camera view — the people outside ring, everyone inside hears the chime and sees who is at the door
- Do not disturb silences the bell, and replaces the outside button with a crossed-out one so nobody rings into a void
- Anonymous mode replaces the occupant names with a mask, the same one for everybody
Rooms reserved to the right people
Point the door at an access list and it becomes a reserved room. The list takes names you ship with the world, a text file you host and edit without republishing, a VRChat Economy product, or the instance master — all at once, any one of them being enough.
The names you ship answer instantly, so the people who must never wait never do. And when somebody is refused, the door says which refusal it is: not on the list, or list not downloaded yet. Two different problems, two different fixes, and a player told neither concludes your button is broken.
Honest about what a locked door is
A VRChat world cannot stop a modified client, and this pack does not pretend otherwise. It tidies a world; it does not guard one. The anonymous mode is a courtesy between players, not a secret — every client can already list who is in the instance.
Everything that can be done well is done well: the state travels through synchronised variables only, requests are checked against the caller's real network identity so nobody can enter, leave or ring on somebody else's behalf, and a player joining late gets the room exactly as it is.
Built to cost nothing
No Update() anywhere. No allocation per frame. The doorbell synchronises nothing at all — a ring is an event, not a state. The occupant list carries player ids rather than names, four bytes instead of thirty each. The camera runs only while the view is up.
Quest-friendly, and the panels are hidden by distance through the included culling pack.
In the package
- The door prefab, wired and ready — two panels, a camera view, three passages
- Five components, every UdonSharp source file, commented
- Five inspectors that report a wiring mistake in your own language
- Manuals in English and French, PDF and Markdown
- Editor tools in English, French, Spanish and German
Requirements: VRChat Worlds SDK 3.10.x, UdonSharp, TextMeshPro, and five free FOS packs — Core 1.3.0, Access, Localization, Teleport, UI Culling. The Creator Companion installs them for you. Version: 2.0.1 — free updates through this page.
Already own version 1? Version 2 is a full rewrite and shares no class name with it, so a prefab you modified does not carry over. The manual maps every 1.0 setting to its 2.0 equivalent, and your VIP list moves across unchanged. Take the time to redo the wiring — it fixes a lock state that could disagree from one player to the next, an anonymous list that showed different names on every screen, and a refusal message that never went away.
