Play together in your world

  • Play a card of the same color, or the same number or sign, as the top card. The first to empty their hand wins. 2 to 8 players.
  • Press Join at a seat, then Deal. Empty seats take CPU players (0-7) at Easy, Normal or Hard, so you can also play alone.
  • Three rule sets, one press on the panel: Basic, House rules and Spicy. Stacking, 7-0, jump-in, draw until playable, the last-card call, how a round ends and the cards dealt can each be set too.
  • Look at a button on the panel and the sign above explains it: every choice and what it means, with the one in play marked, so new players can pick their rules.
  • Down to one card? Say "Last card!". Forget it, and the first player to call "Caught!" makes you draw 2.
  • Your cards and keys sit on your own screen wherever you look. Playable cards are bright, the others dark, and the cards you drew wear a ▼. A Rainbow card opens four color keys; a 7 in 7-0 shows whom you can swap with, with their cards left.
  • Play with the arrow keys and Enter (the stick in VR), CPU players and level included. In VR your cards float below your eyes and your hands press them.
  • Each color has its own mark (red sun, yellow star, green leaf, blue drop), so players who find colors hard to tell apart can go by the marks.
  • The middle of the table shows the color in play, the direction of play and the cards owed in big, clear signs, with 26 sound effects.
  • Hands are sent hidden with a key only each player's own PC holds, so nobody can see another player's cards.
  • Name plates over the other seats show each player's name, cards left, "Last card!", place and wins. Table size goes from life size to 2.5x.
  • English and Japanese words follow each player's VRChat language, or their own choice on screen.

Cards and rules

  • 108 cards: numbers 0-9 in four colors, Sleep (the next player misses a turn), Swirl (play goes the other way round), +2, Rainbow (choose the color) and Rainbow +4.
  • Basic: 7 cards dealt. Stack +2 on +2 and Rainbow +4 on Rainbow +4 to pass the cards owed on. The round ends when one player goes out.
  • House rules: mixed stacking, 7-0 (a 7 swaps hands with a player you choose, a 0 passes every hand on), jump-in with the very same card, and draw until playable.
  • Spicy: 120 cards with Rainbow +6, Rainbow +10 and Roulette (draw until the chosen color comes). Any card that makes them draw as many or more stacks, and a player who reaches 25 cards drops out.

CPU players

  • Easy plays any card it can and sometimes forgets "Last card!". Normal keeps to its strongest color and saves its Rainbow cards. Hard watches the next player's cards, picks colors they seem to lack and is quick to call "Caught!".
  • Wins over 3,000 rounds of 4 players (Easy / Normal / Hard): Basic 15% / 28% / 32%, House rules 13% / 27% / 36%, Spicy 14% / 25% / 36%.
  • A CPU player uses only what its own seat can see. Take over a CPU seat mid-round with its cards.
  • Stand up mid-round and a CPU plays your seat at once. Sit down in the same chair or press Back to play on with the same cards; the round goes on even when everyone is away.

Included files

  • unitypackage: the prefab (round table, 8 chairs, seat consoles, name plates, panel and sign, each player's own screen), the sample scene and 26 sound effects.
  • Materials for Quest/Android, and the felt in three colors (charcoal, green, purple).
  • Blender data: .blend, FBX and the palette.
  • README.txt and README_EN.txt: Japanese and English guides to setup, play and settings.

Requirements and setup

Unity 2022.3.22f1 and VRChat SDK 3.10.5 (SDK3 Worlds with UdonSharp) in a Creator Companion world project, with TextMesh Pro. PC (desktop and VR) and Quest/Android.

  1. Import TMP Essential Resources (Window > TextMeshPro > Import TMP Essential Resources).
  2. Import ColorCardTable_v1.0.unitypackage into your world project.
  3. Place Assets/ColorCardTable/ColorCardTable.prefab on a level floor, or open the sample in Assets/ColorCardTable/Sample.

The table is about 2.0 m across; the whole set with chairs, panel and sign takes about 3.3 m by 4.0 m. About 6,100 triangles plus the cards on the table, no lights and no physics. The sample world built for Android is about 6.2 MB.

The rules and the sync are tested automatically in a new project, and the deals, playable cards, results and CPU moves were matched against a separate reference program at 168,262 points.
