Hat Auto Fit is a Unity editor extension that fits a hat to your avatar's head in one click. It measures the width and depth of the head (including hair), then sets the size and position of the hat, leaving the opening a little looser than the head. Hats modeled with a tilt are straightened (up to 60 degrees forward/back or left/right), and if the inside of the hat hits the top of the head, it is raised until it does not. The hat follows the head (Modular Avatar BoneProxy if present, otherwise it becomes a child of the Head bone). Original meshes and textures are not modified. Undo with Ctrl+Z.
No hat or avatar models are included (tool only).
Free vs Full
- Free trial: try the one-click fit on your own avatar and see the result. Preview only: it goes back after 30 seconds, or when you save the scene, enter Play mode, press Ctrl+Z or close the window.
- Full: keeps the result, plus sliders for depth (brim height), size, looseness, forward/back tilt and left/right tilt. If you want to wear a hat tilted on purpose, use the tilt sliders.
Try the Free trial with your own hats and avatar first to see how it fits. Importing the Full version over the Free version replaces it.
Carefully tested before release
Made by Kotokoto Lab, an independent creator. Tested on 4 free avatars (including a chibi avatar) with 8 hats: 3 free hats from BOOTH (a bucket hat, a beret with a ribbon set up for Modular Avatar, and a student cap with a brim) and 5 simple self-made samples (top hat, knit cap, cap, beret, witch hat). All 32 combinations fit the head in size and position when checked from the front, side and back at an angle. Also tested with a hat that has its own armature and with hats that use BoneProxy. Hats the creator modeled with a tilt (45, 21 and 10 degrees in our tests) are straightened before fitting.
Hats with many decorations or an unusual build may be off; you can fix that with the sliders in the Full version. Animal ears and big hair go through the hat (this tool does not change ears or hair). If your avatar has shape keys to hide ears or hair, set them yourself.
Requirements
Unity 2022.3 (tested on 2022.3.22f1), Humanoid avatar. Works without Modular Avatar.
How to install
